Global Legal Meet and Indonesian BIL Law Firm Delegation Successfully Host High-End Forum on “Opportunities and Challenges for Chinese Enterprises Expanding to Indonesia” in Guangming Science Park Shenzhen, 30 June 2026

Dr. Hugo Chan and Mr. Daniel Or, Partners of Or & Partners and Co-Chairman of Global Legal Meet, led the Indonesian BIL Law Firm and business delegation in successfully hosting a high-end forum on the afternoon of 30 June 2026 at Hengtai Yu Building in Guangming District’s Science Park (Guangming Science City), Shenzhen. The forum formed a key part of the delegation’s four-day visit (29 June – 2 July 2026).

Co-organized by Jin Tang Guangming Law Firm, Global Legal Meet, Shenzhen Old Brand Association, Hengtai Yu · South China Medical Valley and Shenzhen Angel Hui (Guangming), with support from leading research institutes and legal service centers, the event brought together Indonesian senior legal experts, Hong Kong legal professionals, cross-border industry practitioners and representatives from Guangming enterprises. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on Indonesia investment opportunities, legal risk prevention and cross-border dispute resolution.

In the keynote sessions, experts systematically outlined the five core legal risks facing Chinese enterprises in Indonesia — including negative-list investment restrictions, labor localization requirements, intellectual property challenges and protracted dispute enforcement — and recommended a practical “intermediate-layer structure + international arbitration” strategy, utilizing Hong Kong or Singapore SPVs combined with SIAC or HKIAC arbitration for enhanced neutrality and enforceability. Indonesian counsel from BIL provided on-the-ground insights into EPC contract risks, tax treaty application, foreign employee quotas and emerging opportunities in maritime logistics and healthcare/technology sectors.

The roundtable forum, moderated by Dr. Hugo Chan with Mr. Daniel Or participating as a distinguished guest alongside Indonesian experts and business leaders, explored real-world experiences. Speakers emphasized that successful expansion requires genuine understanding of local culture and needs rather than direct transplantation of domestic models, early engagement of trusted local counsel, and the patient building of long-term relationships through incremental collaboration.

The forum received warm feedback from enterprise participants, who expressed greater confidence in navigating the Indonesian market. It showcased the cluster advantages of Guangming Legal Services Building as a forward base for foreign-related legal services and marked a further step in Global Legal Meet’s strategy to build a comprehensive cross-border legal cooperation network. Plans are already underway to extend similar high-caliber exchanges to other ASEAN markets, Central Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas, providing robust rule-of-law support for Chinese enterprises going global.
